Raymond Gray, Sr. -husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend entered into eternal rest Monday, January 22, 2018 at the age of 84. Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, the "Love of his life"- Joyce Durand Gray. He was the son of the late George Gray and Mamie Ford Gray. Father of Shelita Bourgeois (Kenneth Boutte, Sr.), Wanda Bailey (Conrad Bailey, Sr.), Ramona Gray (formally Dunn), Raymond Gray, Jr. (Lisa Brown Gray), Darrell Gray, Troy Gray, Sr. and Joyce Dionne Davis (Bernel Davis, Jr.). Brother of the late Sterling Gray and Leroy Gray. Grandfather of Denise Bourgeois, Steven Gray, Conrad Bailey, Jr., Damon Dunn, Sr., Julian Dunn (Krystal), India Gray, Daniel Gray, David Gray (Autumn), Jonathan Gray, Jade Gray, Blake Gray, Troy Gray, Jr., Bernel Davis, III and Duran Davis. Great grandfather of Leah Johnson, Chloe Bailey, Zoie Bailey, Damon Dunn, Jr., and Brooklyn Dunn. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Gray served 2 years in the Army and completed his service with an Honorable Discharge and the Defense of Country ribbon.
He worked for the United States Postal Service for 37 years and also worked over 20 years for the City of New Orleans, retiring as a full-time employee from both entities.
Mr. Gray was known to be a sharp dresser and was envied for his sartorial style. He enjoyed the best his beloved city of New Orleans offered, partaking of the sights and sounds of the French Quarter, frequenting his favorite restaurants and listening to jazz music. He most enjoyed time spent with friends and family.
Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastors, Officers and Members of Amozion and Franklin Avenue Baptist Churches are invited to attend the funeral service at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Amozion B.C., 907 Deslonde St. Rev. Dr. Charles Mack officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home.
