Lillian Williams Gilyot, age 96, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at home surrounded by her cherished family. A lifelong resident of New Orleans. She was the daughter of the late John Williams II and Bessie Bell Williams. She was the beloved wife of Melvin Paul Gilyot. Loving mother of Gail Love and Quintella Jackson (Harvey). Caring sister of Valerie Williams, John Williams, Richard Williams, Stanley Williams and the late Earl Williams, Yvonne Watley, Oliver Williams, Joseph Williams and Lionel Williams. Sister in law of Beverly Williams, Gloria Williams and the late Delores Williams, Geraldine Williams and Lucille Williams. Devoted grandmother of Stephanie Foster (Dereck), Todd Dominque, Renee Roux (Joseph), Jennifer Gettridge (Rodney) and Ryan Jackson. Adoring great grandmother of Nicholas Amison, Dante' Dominique, Jade Roux, Michael Roux and Rowan Gettridge. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Lillian was also preceded in death by a son in law Hilee Love and a niece Roxanne Williams
Lillian retired from Haspel Brothers, a local clothing manufacturing business located in the seventh ward of New Orleans. There she worked as a master seamstress and boasted of having the honor of working on a seersucker suit for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Lillian enjoyed sewing, quilting and embroidery, but her passion was cooking and feeding her beloved family and friends.
Relatives and friends, also Priest and Parishioners of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church are invited to attend a Mass of Christian at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 7, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6828 Chef Menteur Highway.
