ISABELLA TILLMAN BLACK, affectionately known to friends as Isabel or "Bela" and to family as "Tee" entered this life on August 11, 1922; and entered her eternal rest on November 20, 2015. Born to Philomene Washington and Eddie Tillman, Isabel spent most of her life in Gretna and then in Marrero, LA. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother: James Tillman Sr.; former sister in law: Rosalie D. Common; nieces: Lillian Tillman Jessie and Michelle Jones.
She was a long standing and active member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Gretna, La., being baptized at a young age by Reverend W.R. Bolden. She was a dedicated and faithful member throughout her life and served many years as a member of the Senior Choir.
Isabel leaves to cherish her memory; nephews James (Diane) Tillman Jr, Don & Ernest Jones, Joseph Jessie, Sr. and Ernest Jones; nieces Carla (Glynn) Brooks, Arlene Jett (Rev Alvin) Daniels, Wanda Stieb, Sharon (Richard) Pipkins, Adweina Shelly, and Ramona Trufant; sister-in-law Verona Tillman; great nieces: Joelle Jessie Skinner, Tisheka Brown, Tamula Hodo, Monica Hampton, Taymia Muse, Geslia Nicholas, Talisa Charles; great nephews: James Tillman, III, Joseph, John and Julian Jessie, Don Jones Jr., Quinton Jones, Eric Wilson, Alvin Wilson, Richard Armand; and a host of great -great nieces & nephews, great- great nieces & nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 701 Huey P. Long Ave., Gretna, LA. 70053. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, immediately followed by the funeral service, which will begin at 10 am. Internment immediately following service at Restlawn Cemetery, Avondale, La.
