George "Jodie" Sims, III, an avid sportsman, baseball/softball mentor, coach and player, USAF Veteran of the Vietnam War on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Ochsner Medical Center gained his eternal reward after a lengthy illness. Son of the late George, Jr. and Margarite Roth Sims. He is survived by his devoted wife, Myrtle Ward Sims; cherished children, Tara Sims, Jody Sims, Ryan (Angela) Sims and Dwayne (Ann) Ward; adoring grandchildren, Kirsten and Ryan, Jr.; loving sister, Diane (Perry) Tillman; nieces and nephews, Shannon Sims, Robert (Phoenicia) Cooper, Jr., Sheridan Cooper, Chad Cooper and Sion Ward (Dannton) Jackson; mother-in-law, Lorraine Ward; brother and sister in law, Calvin Ward and Wanda Fields; aunt, Virginia Sims; caring cousin/brother, Safiyyullah Yusuf; dedicated cousin and godchild, Terence (Cindy) Sims, Byron (Rakkier) Sims; great nieces and nephews, Enjoli, Kaila, Robert, III, Megan, Dariyah, Dillon, and Santiago; and offspring of the late Clarence and Irma Sims Joseph, Irvin and Ruby Mae Sims Lancelin and Helen Roth; ardent friend, Robert "Bob" Brown, a host of other relatives and friends, countless baseball/softball and life mentees.
