Carol Crayton Stephens, affectionately known as "Honey Bee" to some, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the age of 77. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. Carol accepted Christ at the Full Gospel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Brown where she grew spiritually. Evangelist Stephens, later joined the Anointed Word Church of God in Christ under the leadership of her son, William T. Stephens, III. Evangelist Stephens could always be found witnessing, praying for people in the streets, and feeding the hungry. When hurricane Katrina moved her and family members to Atlanta, her son was appointed Pastor of the Family of God Church of God in Christ in Gainesville, Georgia where she remained a dutiful member until she moved back to New Orleans. While in New Orleans, she visited various churches but always called her son her Pastor. During her earlier years, she was an employee of Jonathan's Restaurant, Lavata's Oyster House, and Chez Helene Restaurant. She was preceded in death by Anna Johnson Crayton (mother), Ernest Crayton, Sr. (father), and Thomas H. Crayton (brother). She is survived by one brother, Ernest Crayton, Jr. She leaves to mourn three loving children, William T. Stephens, III (Deborah), Tammy Honore' (Darold), and Kathy Davis (Gregory). She also leaves to cherish her memories, nine grandchildren, De'Shun Stephens, Shandra Stephens, Danielle Grace (Bernard), Darold Honore', III, Garron, Gabrielle, Christian, Alexis, and Jeremiah Davis. One great-grandson, Benjamin Grace and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family also pastors, officers and members of New Light Baptist Church, neighboring Churches' of God in Christ, staff and residents of Nazareth Inn, employees of Touro Hospital, Canon Hospice, DeKalb County School District, Georgia State University Perimeter College and Jefferson Parish School System are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at New Light Baptist Church, 1435 Feliciana St. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 am; Visitation will begin at 9:00 am; Interment: Providence Memorial Pk.; Arrangements by DW Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave.; Please visit www.rhodesfuneral.com to sign the guest book.
