Barbara Ann Harris passed away peacefully at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital on September 23, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Surrounded by a host of loving family members, she received her heavenly wings from God. Barbara was born to the late Thomas and Alice K. Harris at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 5, 1954. She was the eighth of nine children. Barbara was a devoted mother who loved her children unconditionally, and wanted nothing but the best for them. Barbara was known as a person who would give her last, even though it meant she would have to go without. She was loved by many and the memories we share will always be cherished. God called her name so softly, that only she could hear. No one heard the footsteps, of angels draw her near. The golden gates stood open, God saw her need to rest, His garden must be so beautiful, because he only takes the best.
Proceeding in death are two siblings; sister, Janice Marie Harris and brother, Alvin Harris. Along with her brother-in-law, Sam Batiste; one granddaughter, Ja'Nyiah Harris and one great-grandson Legend Jo'Hohanni Harris. She leaves to cherish her legacy, longtime companion, Louis Banks; four brothers, Clarence Harris (Ola May) of Westwego, LA, Gerald Harris (Joyce) of Brooklyn, NY, Lionel Harris (Patricia) of Avondale, LA and Thomas Kennedy of Avondale, LA; three sisters, Geraldene Batiste of Avondale, LA, Nellie Hill of Waxhaw, NC and Joyce Kennedy of Marrero, LA - missing since 1992. Fourteen loving children; Daughters, Charlotte Harris, Shawaine Banks, LaShondra Harris and Janae Harris; Sons, Marlon Harris, Craig "Danny" Harris, Randy Harris, Damien Harris, Brandon Harris (Kimberly), Jarmaal Harris, Colin Scott, Lamar Harris, Anthony Harris, and Ke'von "Tyren" Harris and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life and Home Going of Barbara Ann Harris at True Vine Baptist Church, 249 Sala Ave., Westwego, LA on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00 am with visitation from 10:00 am until service time. Interment will follow the service at Providence Memorial Park 8200 Airline Dr, Metairie La.
