Arthur John Pomfrey, Jr. departed this life on Thursday, November 22, 2018 in New Orleans, LA at the age of 79. Arthur is survived by his wife of 52 years, Ella Lee Hall Pomfrey; siblings, Philip Werlin Pomfrey, Joseph Pomfrey, Patricia Claiborne, and brother-in-law, Clarence Maire; children, Anita Ann Watkins, Randy Garland Pomfrey, Rhonda Lynnora Pomfrey, Reginald Pomfrey and fiance' Amy, Roderick Allen Pomfrey and fiance' Quadra, and Rayshawn Arthur Pomfrey (Peatrice), grandchildren; Kanisha, Samuel, Christina, Rha'Keisha (Quintan), Bryanna, Breah, Regjaneca, Shanika, Bryant, Rayian, Patience, Reanna, Passion, Ryleigh, Deasia, Precious, Reginald, Jr., and Rayshawn Jr., He is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor Dimbo Pomfrey and Arthur John Pomfrey, Sr., and stepmother Beatrice, siblings; Lydia Theresa Pomfrey Scott (Clarence), Catherine A. Pomfrey Kisack (Steve), Edna Ida Pomfrey Maire, daughter Theresa Ann Cooper, and grandson Joshua Nobel Pomfrey.
Arthur was a lifelong native and resident of New Orleans, LA. He attended Joseph S. Clark Senior High School. Arthur served in the U. S. Army until his honorable discharge. Arthur was a remarkable cement finisher for Boh Brothers Construction Company and he became a supervisor while working for Hard Rock Construction Company where he retired in 2008. His children and grandchildren remember him as a proud, strong willed, hardworking patriarch who encouraged them to pursue their educational and lifelong goals.
Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastors, Officers and members of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and all who knew Arthur are welcome to attend and celebrate his life at 12:00 Noon on Friday, November 30, 2018 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Ave. Pastor Fred Luter, Jr. officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 12:00 Noon. Interment: Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements by D.W.
